Chisinau buildings to undergo energy renovation with EU support
Government has approved the ratification of two agreements for the implementation of the Optimization of centralized heating system in Chisinau project. The energy renovation projects will include thermal insulation of residential blocks and modernization of internal thermal distribution systems.
Thus, 2510 individual thermal points will be installed, and 1665 residential blocks will switch to a horizontal thermal distribution system. At the same time, primary thermal networks are to be rehabilitated, and two new pumping stations are to be constructed to ensure efficient thermal energy supply to the city. It is estimated that 300,000 dwellings in the capital will benefit from the project.
'We have a new project with free funding from our partners of the European Union that benefits the citizens of Chisinau municipality. Let us recall that in the last six months, we have approved projects worth nearly half a billion euros for the capital,' said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The completion of these works will significantly contribute to reducing costs for consumers, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 816,000 tons, saving 4,600 MWh of primary energy over the next 20 years, as well as improving the quality of services.
All works will be made possible thanks to the Grant Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on investment grant from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment and the Grant Agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on provision of the grant within the European Commission's Neighborhood Investment Platform.
