30 hospitals and student dormitories to undergo energy renovation

30 public buildings, including 16 higher education institutions and 14 district hospitals will undergo energy renovations. MPs ratified today the credit facility agreement with the French Development Finance Agency to launch the project Initiative for development of sustainable public infrastructure through energy efficiency renovation.

The agreement provides for a loan of 30 million euros, with a maturity of 15 years and a grace period of six years. Germany is contributing a grant of 38.7 million euros, while the Republic of Moldova is contributing 4.3 million euros.

Public medical facilities in Hîncești, Fălești, Căușeni, Orhei, Florești, Drochia, Ungheni, and Cahul, as well as the Psychiatry Hospital and the National Blood Transfusion Center in Bălți will benefit from such renovation.

As for higher education institutions, the following student dormitories will be renovated: dormitories no. 3, 1, and 19 of the State University of Moldova; dormitories no. 2, 15, and 16 of the Technical University of Moldova; study blocks no. 4 and 5 of Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University.

Implementing this project aims to reduce energy consumption by up to 60% in the targeted buildings and decrease CO₂ emissions by 4,200 tons annually.

Also in the plenary session, a draft law was adopted to create the Energy Efficiency Fund, meant to facilitate the financing of energy efficiency projects. The fund will provide guarantees and financial compensations, including interest rate subsidies for loans intended for homeowners' associations and individual homeowners.
