Prime Minister Vasile Tofan had a discussion today at the Government with the 144 young people who are doing internships in the public service. The young participants are part of the joint Internship Program of the Government and the European Union, which is preparing a new generation of civil servants who will contribute to the modernization of public administration.

Eighty-five of the young people are part of the paid Public Service Internship Program, while another 59 interns are enrolled in the similar program of the European Union – both now in their sixth edition.

The Prime Minister spoke about his own professional path, which also began with internships in the public sector, and praised the involvement of the young people: “Thank you for being interested in a potential career in the public sector. I don’t think there is any field where you can have a greater impact and satisfaction,” said the Prime Minister.

The official talked to the young interns about the specifics of working in the public sector, economic reforms, how to attract more investment to the Republic of Moldova, and measures to combat corruption.

At the same time, the young people showed interest in the country’s European path. “In a short time, we have covered a distance that many states have taken many years to cover, and if we continue to progress just as well, we will sign the Accession Treaty in 2028,” said the Prime Minister, noting that the decision on the enlargement of the European Union belongs to the member states.

Since the launch of the Government’s paid public service internship program three years ago, 262 young people have successfully completed the program. 55 former interns have started their careers in public administration, and 65 graduates of the program are part of the public service reserve corps.

Participants in the internship programs have the opportunity to learn how public administration works, to work alongside civil servants, and to take part in various training sessions. They receive a monthly scholarship, and graduates who successfully complete the internship and receive a “very good” rating from their mentors can enter the civil service without a competitive selection process and without a probationary period.
