
CEC: Tuesday - last day to submit documents for registering candidates for new local elections
7 October is the last day to submit documents for registering candidates for elective positions in the new local elections scheduled for 16 November 2025.
According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the registration files for candidates are to be submitted to the constituency electoral councils in level I local administrative units where the new local elections will take place.
The candidate list for the councilor positions is to be drafted in Romanian and submitted to the electoral council both on paper and electronically, respecting a gender quota of at least 40% for both sexes, following the formula: at least 4 candidates of the same gender for every 10 positions.
As of today, three files have been submitted for the position of mayor by candidates appointed by political parties, and subscription lists have been issued for three potential independent candidates. For the position of councilor, a list of candidates from a political party has been submitted, and subscription lists have been issued for a potential independent candidate.
On 16 November 2025, new local elections for the position of mayor will take place in six localities: the village of Ustia, Glodeni district, the commune of Natalievca, Fălești district, the commune of Cremenciug, Soroca district, the village of Bașcalia, Basarabeasca district, the commune of Călinești, Fălești district, and the city of Leova, Leova district. Additionally, in the commune of Călinești, Fălești district, and the city of Leova, Leova district, a new composition of the local council will also be elected.
