
Last day of campaigning for new local elections
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced that today is the last day when electoral campaigning is allowed for the new local elections, due on 18 May.
According to the Electoral Code, electoral campaigning is strictly prohibited on the election day and the day before it. During this period, candidates are not allowed to appear on TV or radio broadcasts. Also, the local public administration and advertising broadcasters are obliged to remove electoral advertising materials. The prohibition does not apply to information already posted on the internet. In addition, electoral competitors cannot make transactions in or out of the account marked Electoral Fund.
According to the Contravention Code, continuous electoral campaigning on the mentioned days by media, electoral competitors and citizens is an administrative offense and is sanctioned with a fine of up to 3,000 lei for private people and up to 7,500 lei for legal entities.
