
Moldovan official attends 134th session of Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi participated today in the 134th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, held in Luxembourg. The event brought together representatives from the 46 member states of the CoE and observer states.
In his speech, he reaffirmed Moldova's strong commitment to democratic values, rule of law and human rights, highlighting the essential role of the Council of Europe in a geopolitical context marked by instability. He advocated for the creation of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and condemned Kremlin's attempts to undermine the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
Moreover, Mihai Popșoi announced that preparations for the Republic of Moldova to take over the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers are underway. Our country will hold this position from November 2025 to May 2026, with the official program including events organized in Chișinău and Strasbourg. The Moldovan presidency will conclude with a ministerial session hosted in Chișinău on May 14-15, 2026.
The meeting's agenda also included decisions on support for Ukraine, as well as the official launch of the new Council of Europe Convention on the protection of profession of lawyer, signed by the Republic of Moldova.
At the end of the session, Malta officially assumed the presidency of the Committee of Ministers until November 14, 2025.
During the meeting, Mihai Popșoi also held a trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of the Principality of Monaco and Montenegro, Isabelle Berro-Amadei and Ervin Ibrahimović. The three officials discussed coordinating priorities for future presidencies of the Committee of Ministers, aiming to strengthen the European Convention on Human Rights system, combat disinformation, counter hybrid threats, and support education and youth engagement.
