Moldova aligns with EU declaration on Belarus' hybrid actions at European border
The Republic of Moldova, as a candidate country for EU membership, aligns with EU Declaration on Belarus' hybrid actions at the European border. Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi made the statement today.
The official expressed full solidarity with European states, including Lithuania.
'We firmly condemn Belarus' provocative actions against the EU and express full solidarity with Lithuania and other EU member states,' stated Mihai Popșoi.
Thus, the European Union calls on the authorities in Minsk to take effective measures for the control of airspace and state borders. The EU expresses full solidarity with Lithuania and other affected member states, emphasizing that 'sanctions against the Belarusian regime remain in force, and further measures could be adopted if hostile actions continue.'
In this context, road traffic between the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Belarus remains suspended until November 30, 2025, with the possibility of extending this measure. The decision was made by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania at the meeting on October 29 of this year and applies to all border crossing points between the two states.
The Lithuanian authorities justified the extension of the restrictions for national security reasons, in the context of repeated incidents at the border, caused by the intrusion into Lithuanian airspace of suspicious meteorological balloons originating from the Republic of Belarus.
