Moldovan president says Moldova supports lasting peace in Ukraine
President Maia Sandu has conveyed a strong message of solidarity with Ukraine, emphasizing that support for the neighboring country was not only a matter of morality, but also of regional security.
"We must be united in supporting Ukraine. Not only because it is natural to help a neighbor in distress, but also because Ukraine is standing up to an empire of aggression that threatens the entire region," the head of state said at the end of the Moldova-European Union summit, held in Chișinău.
Maia Sandu highlighted that the peace Moldova enjoys today is possible due to Ukraine's resistance against the Russian invasion: "We have peace in Moldova because our Ukrainian neighbors are defending it. This must be understood and appreciated."
In the context, the president reaffirmed Moldova's commitment to supporting Ukraine.
"Moldova and Ukraine are on the same path towards the European Union, and the integration of both countries will strengthen European security," added Maia Sandu.
