Experts complete investigation on the spot in case of crashed Romanian helicopter in southern Moldova

Chisinau, 6 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prosecutors have completed the investigation on the spot in case of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) helicopter which crashed in the southern Cantemir district. Experts of the Eurocopter company from Germany participated in the inquiry as well.   

According to a press release by the General Prosecutor’s Office of Romania, the inquirers on 5 June finished the investigation on the spot of the air crash, which occurred in the settlement Haragis of Moldova on 2 June, in the wake of which four people died.  

Representatives of the insurance company, where the helicopter was insured, as well as experts of Eurocopter, Germany, participation in the investigation on the spot, along with the judicial authorities of Moldova and the inquiry team of Romania.   

The wreck of the helicopter was raised and carried to Chisinau to a shed belonging to the Emergency Situations Department of Moldova. It is to be given over to the Romanian authorities, along with the other objects raised on the spot.  

Also, the cause contained an instruction on the carrying out by the National Institute of Criminology of the Romanian Police of a genetic judicial expertise on the biological evidence raised during the investigation on the spot.  

The four members of the crew, physician Mihaela Dumea, medical assistant Gabriel Sandu, colonel Doru Gavril and copilot Voicu Socae, died in the wake of the accident which occurred on 2 June.  

The helicopter was of the EC 135 type and was purchased by the Romanian Health Ministry in 2014 for five million euros. It has been owned by SMURD, Iasi,  Romania, since 2014, with the last inspection carried out in 2016.
