Energy minister says for Moldova, regional situation reconfirmed need for sovereignty, resilience, integration

The war in Ukraine has redefined Europe's energy map and its priorities. Thus, for Moldova, the regional situation has reaffirmed the need for sovereignty, resilience, and integration. Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has made statements to this effect at the closing of the international summit, The Future of Energy Security, held under the auspices of the UK government and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Dorin Junghietu provided a clear picture of the progress made by Moldova in the energy field, in an increasingly sensitive and unstable geopolitical context. The official highlighted the strategic decisions made in the last two years, which have propelled the level of national energy security.

"It is about the synchronization with the European network ENTSO-E and disconnection from the system controlled by the Russian Federation, expansion of interconnections with Romania and diversification of natural gas sources, launching an ambitious national plan for the integration of renewable energy, aiming to reach 30 per cent green energy by 2030, as well as investments in digitalization, energy storage technologies and smart networks," said Dorin Junghietu.

The official emphasized that the war in Ukraine had redefined Europe's energy map and its priorities. Thus, for Moldova, the regional situation has reaffirmed the need for sovereignty, resilience and integration. Dorin Junghietu called for increased regional cooperation and international solidarity, in front of over 60 ministers and international leaders present at the summit.

"Energy security is no longer just a technical ambition; it has become a pillar of national security, economic development and stability. Energy security does not mean walls; it means bridges - interconnections, shared infrastructure, market integration and a collective defense against energy constraints," said Dorin Junghietu.

The minister also said that Moldova was a small country, through determination, and with support from development partners and a common vision, it can become an example of resilience in the face of current energy challenges.

The international summit, The Future of Energy Security, brought together energy ministers, leaders and decision-makers from around the world, in order to shape a common vision of energy security in the age of green transition and new climate and geopolitical challenges.
