Moldova, Romania simplify border crossing with coordinated control at Fălciu–Cantemir railway point

Citizens and transporters will experience faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys through Fălciu (Romania) - Cantemir (Republic of Moldova) border crossing point. Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Daniella Misail-Nichitin signed an Agreement on the implementation of coordinated control at the railway point with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs of Romania Cătălin Predoiu in Bucharest.

This is the first time coordinated control is applied at a railway point and in both directions of travel. It will reduce waiting times, eliminate queues, and simplify formalities for citizens and economic operators, supporting trade and cross-border exports. At the same time, the authorities of the two states are strengthening the cooperation to enhance border security.

Reopening Fălciu–Cantemir railway point is strategically important as it is part of the European Union's 'solidarity lanes' initiative, contributes to connecting the Republic of Moldova to the European transport network.

'Journeys through Cantemir–Fălciu railway point will be faster, safer, and more comfortable. Border formalities will be simplified, transporters and economic operators will have more opportunities, and communities and regions on both banks of the Prut will connect more closely with Europe. Together with Romania’s Deputy Prime Minister Marian Cătălin Predoiu we signed the Agreement on coordinated control at Cantemir–Fălciu railway point. Cooperation between the authorities of the two states strengthens border security, supports trade and regional connectivity, and brings us closer to European transport standards and networks,' said Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

Cantemir - Fălciu will be the third border crossing point between Moldova and Romania where coordinated control will be applied. Currently, the procedure is set up at Leușeni-Albița and Giurgiulești–Galați crossing points.

Authorities announced that by the end of this year, the necessary infrastructure will be prepared to apply coordinated control at Sculeni - Sculeni border crossing point as well.
