Chisinau, 04 August /MOLDPRES/ – Former MP, Iurie Bolboceanu, will be trialed for betrayal of the motherland in favour of Russia. The prosecutors have finalized their prosecution and sent the legal case to court, today.
According to the prosecutor's office for combating organized crime and special causes’ press service, Bolboceanu was recruited by the officers of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defence, which is a foreign espionage service.
However, in October 2016 – March 2017, the former MP would have sent information of national interest that could be used to the detriment of Moldova's interests.
The information provided was forward-looking data on the strategies and tactics of national legislative reforms, accumulated from decision-making political figures, personal data and vulnerabilities of the high-ranking persons in the state, promoters of political reforms, tactical evolution of the implementation of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU, detailed information on the intentions and legislative plans of the governing parliamentary groups, based on data gathered from within political parties. All this information had a strategic potential and could be used to the detriment of Moldova's interests, said a press release from the Prosecutor's Office.
In this case, the law enforcement officials have established more systematic and clandestine meetings, application of special filing methods and techniques, the use of secure and hidden channels of connection, and the provision of cash rewards for assignments.
If found guilty, the former deputy is at risk from 12 – 20 years of imprisonment.
