PHOTO // Orange wind alert: Police report damage, interventions in more of Moldova
The Police of Moldova inform that, in the context of the nationwide orange alert for strong wind, more incidents have been recorded in Chisinau and in districts across the country, including fallen trees, damaged roofs and temporary disruptions to road traffic.
In the districts of Rascani, Balti, Falesti and Soroca, several cases of trees fallen to the ground have been reported. In the municipality of Orhei, roofing slate sheets torn off by the wind damaged more cars.
On Dacia Boulevard in Chisinau, in the direction of the Airport, traffic has also been hampered by branches knocked down by the wind.
A serious incident took place at the Zoological Garden of the capital, where a tree fell on a 6‑year‑old child who was there together with his father. The minor was taken over by a medical team and transported to hospital in serious condition.
In the Cantemir district, on the regional road G132 between the settlements of Cania and Carpesti, road traffic was partially restricted because of fallen trees. Similar situations were reported on the R‑32 route, on the Cahul–Vulcanesti segment, where a tree partially blocked the roadway. In Chisinau, on Tăbăcăria Nouă Street, a tree fell onto the road, and specialized teams are intervening to clear the access route and restore normal traffic.
The authorities announce that intervention teams are working in the field to remove obstacles and restore traffic under normal conditions.
The police urge citizens to exercise increased caution during dangerous weather phenomena. If fallen trees or downed power lines are noticed, the public is asked to avoid contact and immediately call the 112 emergency service or the nearest police patrol.
At the same time, drivers are advised to avoid parking near trees and poles, to adjust their speed to road conditions and to watch out for any obstacles that may appear on the roadway.
Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary walk, to stay away from old trees, not to touch fallen power lines and to secure light objects on their property that could be picked up by the wind. Children must be supervised with particular care throughout the duration of the weather warning.
The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued an orange alert for strong wind for April 26, 2026. According to forecasts, between 10:00 and 21:00, extensive areas will experience intensification of north‑westerly winds, with gusts of up to 19–24 m/s, and locally even up to 26 m/s.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) warns the population about the increased risk of vegetation fires, falling trees and other dangerous situations, and provides a set of recommendations for preventing incidents. The authorities urge citizens to act responsibly and to comply with safety measures.
