VIDEO // Over 330 state flags reach lyceums of Moldova
A total of 336 state flags were provided to lyceums of Moldova during a solemn event held today on the occasion of Moldova’s State Flag Day. The ceremony took place on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) and began with the national anthem performed by the choir “Vocile Primăverii” (The Voices of Spring).
Afterwards, Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun addressed the public. He emphasized the deep significance of the tricolor and the importance of patriotic education in the current context.
“April 27 is the day when we honor the state flag – our tricolor, one of the most important symbols of our sovereignty, identity, and national dignity. It is a day on which we celebrate the memory of those who fought for our freedom, for the right to speak, to think and to decide our own future,” Perciun said.
The minister referred to current challenges and the need to strengthen national identity:
“We are living in complicated times, with a war at our border and constant attempts to make us forget our history, to lose hope and trust in the state. On this period of unrest, it is essential to return to our roots and gather around the symbols that unite us. Patriotic education means knowing our history, showing respect for the truth and exercising civic responsibility.”
Attending the event, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu spoke about the significance of the tricolor’s colors and the responsibility of each generation.
“The freedom and independence we enjoy today are not things given to us for free. They are values we must fight for every day. Red symbolizes the sacrifice and dedication of our forebears, yellow – work and diligence, and blue – the peace we have managed to preserve together,” Grosu said.
He also shared a message for young people:
“Be proud of our tricolor – when our athletes bring home medals, when our artists step onto international stages. Keep this symbol in your hearts and carry it forward with dignity.”
Interior Minister Daniela Misail-Nichitin highlighted the role of the flag in the work of state institutions and in citizens’ lives.
“For the Interior Ministry, the tricolor is more than a symbol. It is part of our professional and human identity. It accompanies each intervention, every life saved, every community protected,” she said.
The official also evoked a symbolic image from the Dniester War:
“A small tricolor pinned to a twig in a trench, with a cartridge nearby and the words ‘God help Us’. That image tells everything about courage, sacrifice and faith. Today, the flag is reaches schools as a relay of responsibility – from those who defended the country to those who will build it.”
The event brought together students, teachers and officials, and the flags offered to educational institutions are meant to strengthen civic spirit and national identity among young people.
