A 66-year-old woman has been taken to hospital, after she was hit by an advertising billboard that had come loose in strong winds. The incident took place in the Centru district of the Chisinau municipality.
According to the Police, the billboard detached from the facade of a building and fell on the woman while she was walking down the street. As a result of the impact, the victim suffered a leg injury.
The medical crew that arrived at the scene provided first aid, after which the woman was transported to hospital for examinations and specialized care.
A six-year-old child was also taken to hospital in serious condition, after a tree knocked down by the strong wind had fallen on him. The minor was picked up by a medical team and urgently transported to hospital, and his condition is serious, according to preliminary information.
Authorities urge the population to exercise maximum caution in the context of the orange code warning for strong winds, which is currently affecting the capital and more regions of the country.
The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued an orange code warning for strong winds for April 26, 2026. According to forecasts, between 10:00 and 21:00, widespread areas will experience intensifications of northwesterly winds, with gusts of up to 19–24 m/s, and in isolated areas even up to 26 m/s.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) warns the population about the increased risks of vegetation fires, falling trees and other dangerous situations, and provides a set of recommendations for preventing incidents. Authorities urge citizens to act responsibly and to follow safety measures.
