VIDEO // United Kingdom donates Moldova intervention equipment worth 3 million lei for Dniester River

The response capacities of Moldovan authorities to ecological challenges on the Dniester River have been significantly strengthened following a new donation on behalf of external partners. The Government of the United Kingdom has delivered to Moldova a batch of state-of-the-art intervention equipment worth over 3 million lei, meant for the quick containment of potential pollution sources and the protection of the aquatic ecosystem.

The British assistance consists of a complex technical arsenal, including over 200 barrier systems of various types, from inflatable ones to mesh barriers, designed to capture and immediately isolate harmful substances from the water surface. The batch also includes large-capacity storage tanks, which enable the safe collection of up to 5,000 liters of pollutants, as well as hundreds of special absorbent materials in the form of rolls and wipes, essential for rapid decontamination operations.

The Environment Ministry confirmed that all items had already been received and distributed to the responsible institutions, with the equipment now ready for immediate deployment in the field.

“This logistical support allows environmental authorities to intervene much more promptly and efficiently, minimizing the negative impact on the country’s biodiversity and water resources, in the context of the current crisis on the Dniester,” explained Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder.

The central environmental authority expressed gratitude to the British partners for their solidarity proved, emphasizing that this effort is part of a broader chain of international assistance. Moldova has earlier benefited from similar support from Romania, Germany, Luxembourg, Poland through the Solidarity Fund PL, as well as from Slovakia, Belgium and the United Nations Development Programme, all these contributions creating a vital protective shield for the ecological security of the region.
