All polling stations in Moldova opened by 7:00

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/- All polling stations in the country opened at 7:00. Abroad, the voting process has begun in most countries. The head of the Central Electoral Commission, Dorin Cimil, made the statement today.

2,143 polling stations were set up for today's election, out of which 139 polling stations abroad, and 42 polling stations in the localities on the left bank of the Dniester. More than 3.2 million Moldovan citizens are expected to vote at the polls, of which 43,000 young people will vote for the first time.

In the polling stations on the territory of the country, the citizens can exercise their right to vote with the identity card and the accompanying card, which confirms the residence on the territory of the polling station. It is also possible to vote with the provisional identity card and with the service card, and the military in time with the military booklet. Abroad, Moldovans will be able to vote with their passport, including an expired passport, ID card or seaman's passbook. Today's election will be monitored by more than 1,800 national observers and over 300 international observers, accredited by the Central Electoral Commission.

Today, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens are asked to enter the polling booths with protective masks and take their own pen to sign the lists. People who will not be able to physically go to the polling station, including those who show symptoms of acute respiratory infections, will vote at place of residence following an application by 15:00.

Eight candidates have registered for the presidency: Renato Usatii - candidate of the Political Party Our Party; Andrei Năstase - candidate of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Tudor Deliu - candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party, independent candidate - Igor Dodon; Violeta Ivanov - candidate of the Shor Party, Maia Sandu - candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party, Octavian Țîcu - candidate of the National Unity Party, Dorin Chirtoacă - candidate of UNIREA Electoral Bloc.
