Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova should get our attention and assistance for the consolidation of the resilience. President of Romania Klaus Iohannis has made statements to this effect at the Bucharest 9 (B9) Format Summit, held in Riga.

Klaus Iohannis spoke out for the continuation and increase in the support for Ukraine as long as it takes. ‘’The other vulnerable NATO partners, especially Moldova, should also get our attention and assistance for the consolidation of the resilience,’’ Klaus Iohannis said.

The Romanian president noted, cited by the Agerpres Agency, that Russia would continue to represent ‘’the highest risk to the European security’’ and the NATO states must be prepared to act ‘’consequently.’’

„Russia will continue to represent the highest risk of security for our states and for the European security. We must be prepared to act consequently! We, the NATO allies from the eastern flank, are on the first line of counteracting the negative effects of this devastating war,’’ Iohannis said at the B9 Summit in Riga today.

He noted that the states on the eastern flank, which are members of this format, must be prepared, ‘’as the dramatic regional developments continues to demand, ever more, full attention and coordination,’’ to act in order to bring value added to the Alliance as a whole.

„We must act for more solidarity, dialogue and cooperation. They are and should remain the foundation of our common force and resilience. Through our common vision and actions, the B9 Format contributed to the consolidation of NATO’s position of defence at the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea. We must continue on this way!’’ the Romanian president added.

Klaus Iohannis emphasized the need of strengthening the regional and Euro-Atlantic security. ’’We should stay focused on the improvement of the security on NATO’s eastern flank, especially in the Black Sea region. Thus, we will consolidate the regional and Euro-Atlantic security and of all those 32 allies,’’ Klaus Iohannis stressed.

In his speech, the Romanian head of state pointed out the presence at the B9 Summit of Sweden and Finland for the first time ever, - states which have recently joined the NATO, as well as the presence of the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

The B9 Summit is a Romanian-Polish initiative dedicated to aspects of security specific for NATO’s eastern flank, which includes the allied states from this area. The summit was launched in Bucharest in 2015, at a joint initiative by President of Romania Klaus Iohannis and President of Poland Andrzej Duda, as a response to the worsening of the security situation following the illegal annexation of Crimea.
