Moldovan president conveys message ahead of starting of EU accession negotiations

Chisinau, 25June /MOLDPRES/ - „Moldova’s future is in the European Union,’’ says President Maia Sandu ahead of the starting of the first meeting of the Moldova-European Union Intergovernmental Commission in Luxembourg, during which the EU accession negotiations will be officially launched.

„Today, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine officially start the negotiations on accession to EU. Our future is in the European family,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

The head of state offered thanks to the European leaders for the support provided to Moldova on the European integration path. ‘’We are deeply grateful for the firm support,’’ the Moldovan president said, highlighting  the contributions of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. ‘’We are stronger together,’’ Maia Sandu stressed.       

Moldova and Ukraine on 25 June starts the negotiations on accession to the European Union. They will be officially launched at an intergovernmental conference due to be held in Luxembourg today. Moldova’s delegation at the meeting is led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The Moldovan authorities’ task is to ensure Moldova’s preparation for the accession to the European Union by 2030, the Bureau for European Integration said.     

On 7 June, the European Commission found out that Moldova and Ukraine had fulfilled the conditions for starting the negotiations on accession to the European Union.
