Moldovan parliament approves draft law on agriculture's subsidization

The MPs today approved, in the first reading, the draft law on financing, managing and monitoring the agricultural policy, which will regulate subsidies in the agricultural sector.

The legislative initiative, developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA), supports farmers and the development of the country's agricultural sector.

The draft law partially transposes two European Union regulations, aiming to ensure a coherent system of managing agricultural funds and interventions, in line with European agricultural policy.

The main goals include improving the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and facilitating farmers' access to new technologies, markets and sustainable agricultural practices.

According to the initiative, financial support will be provided from the National Fund for Development of Agriculture and Rural Environment, aiming at the development of rural infrastructure, promotion of innovations and modernization of farms.

The draft establishes clear criteria and objectives for accessing funds and precise procedures for submitting and reviewing applications for financial support.

At the same time, the draft law regulates the implementation of the Strategic Programme of Agricultural Policy, due to be approved by the government for a six-year period and will establish strategies and financial resources for the development of the agricultural sector.

This year, the National Fund for Development of Agriculture and Rural Environment has a budget of 1.7 billion lei.
