Premiere for Moldova: merchants to be able to use virtual cash registers, electronic tax receipts

Merchants in the Republic of Moldova will be able, for the first time, to use virtual cash registers and electronic tax receipts (eBon). The initiative launched by the government aims to reduce the administrative burden and support the work of entrepreneurs, especially those in rural areas.

“The new proposed measure removes barriers that previously limited the use of virtual cash registers, helping to reduce costs for small and medium-sized enterprises and to simplify tax compliance,” the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization said.

The costs for a virtual cash register will be about 75 lei per month – a much smaller amount compared to the maintenance of traditional cash registers. The applications can be installed on a phone, tablet, or computer, and tax receipts are issued automatically and can be sent to customers via email or SMS. Upon request, the receipt can be printed.

“This digital solution offers real benefits for entrepreneurs: lower costs, simplified procedures, and more transparency. Whether it is a small family business in a village or a company in a city, all can benefit from this digital transformation,” Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Doina Nistor said.

Specialists estimate that the new measure could generate annual savings of thousands of lei for small businesses and up to millions for large companies.

The draft law regulating the use of virtual cash registers and electronic receipts will be submitted to Parliament for approval.
