Prime Minister: This government’s focus is to moderate rise in real estate prices
The government will make efforts and propose measures to enable a moderation of real estate price increases, or even their reduction. The assurance comes from Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, who emphasized that the lack of a home of one’s own is one of the main reasons that drives many young people to leave the country.
“This government’s focus is to moderate the rise in prices and even try to bring real estate prices down. Because this is the main reason why many young people decide to leave the country: they cannot afford to live with their families, to find an apartment or even a studio flat,” said Vasile Tofan during the press conference dedicated to presenting next year’s fiscal policy.
The official also pointed out the main problems that exist on the real estate market. According to him, these are overly expensive construction materials, land, and labor.
“The real estate market has several major problems. First, construction materials are far too expensive; we must think about how we can extract more stone in Moldova, because we are even ending up importing stone, which is absurd. Second, our labor is too expensive. That is why we must ensure that we bring more people into the labor market and find those people who would allow us to build at lower cost. Third, land is too expensive. The procedure is far too bureaucratic and, unfortunately, very often marked by corruption. So we need to think about how to bring more unused land into the economic circuit so that developers can build. Only in this way can we lower real estate prices. This government’s focus will be to correct the production factors so that we can build more and temper prices on the real estate market,” Vasile Tofan concluded.
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today presented the draft budget policy for 2027. The document has been submitted for public consultation.
