Moldovan deputy PM in Bucharest says interconnection means putting Moldova back on EU map

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, during his speech at the high-level forum, Boosting the Absorption of European Funds by Moldova - Partnerships Moldova – Romania – Ukraine, organized by the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament today,  said that Moldova needed to be reintegrated into regional economic circuits through developed infrastructure, which enhances connectivity and supports the economic development of the country and the region.

‘’We need to develop transport infrastructure that integrates us into regional economic networks and opens up the path for sustainable economic growth. A modern infrastructure will allow us to leverage the commercial and logistic potential of the country, providing tangible economic benefits for our citizen,’’ said Vladimir Bolea.

The official noted that strategic projects had been initiated thanks to the cooperation between Moldova, Romania and Ukraine, which will contribute to the modernization of the infrastructure and improvement of cross-border connections.

‘’This includes the project on the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway, with a total length of 320 km in the territory of Moldova, which will play an important role in strengthening economic and cultural relations with Romania and Ukraine; as well as projects for the construction of four new bridges across the Prut River, ensuring direct connections between Moldova and Romania,’’ Bolea also said.

In Bucharest, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea met Minister of European Investments and Projects Marcel Boloș. The officials agreed to sign, in next May, a Memorandum on cooperation in European Commission-funded programmes and initiatives between the Romanian Ministry of European Investments and Projects and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The document aims to strengthen bilateral collaboration, in order to support the European integration process of Moldova through expertise transfer, organization of specific training for accessing pre-accession funds, exchange of experience and learning from Romania's best practices in the accession process.
