Moldovan deputy PM for European integration has discussions with European Parliament's delegation

The European agenda of Moldova was discussed by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov with the European Parliament’s delegation, on a visit to Chisinau. Gherasimov thanked the MEPs for the support provided to Moldova in the European legislature and emphasized that the financial aid of 1.9 billion euros, provided by the European Union, would contribute to improving people's lives.

The delegation included members of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs. Gherasimov and the MEPs discussed the steps the Moldovan authorities are to undertake to prepare Moldova for EU membership.

“I was pleased to meet today with a delegation of members of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by David McAllister. We talked about the European agenda of Moldova and about the steps we have to take, as a country, in all areas, to be ready for accession,” noted Gherasimov on her Facebook account.

The deputy PM thanked the European deputies for the support provided to Moldova and highlighted the importance of the assistance offered by the European Union.

“I thanked the MEPs for the support provided by the EU to our country to overcome challenges in the energy sector and for their contribution to advancing the process of approval of the Growth Plan for Moldova. The assistance package will help us develop our economy, implement infrastructure projects and thus improve people's lives,” added Gherasimov.

The implementation of the Economic Growth Plan for Moldova worth 1.9 billion euros was discussed in Chisinau by members of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs during a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu.

In a press conference held in Chisinau joint with Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman, David McAllister said that Moldova stayed a priority for EU and would receive strong support, both through financing and gradual integration into European mechanisms and the market.

“Moldova has proved that it is a deeply European country. Your country represents the key values of Europe, namely, the solidarity you have shown towards Ukrainian refugees, the resilience you have demonstrated in responding to Russia's blackmail, and the courage proven when you ruled to unite your destiny with the one of Europe,” said the European official.

David McAllister informed that the negotiators on behalf of the European Parliament had agreed to provide Moldova with more pre-financing and more non-reimbursable support. EU’s assistance was supplemented by 100 million euros, non-reimbursable funding, bringing the total amount to 520 million euros. The MEP highlighted that the investments would be directed towards sectors due to generate economic growth and public services.
