The system for the prevention and control of animal diseases in Moldova will be strengthened, in order to enhance the protection of public health and the livestock sector. The cabinet of ministers today approved the Veterinary sanitary regulation on the use of certain veterinary medicinal products.

The document sets clear criteria for vaccination, institutional responsibilities and enhanced surveillance measures. Stricter rules are laid down for the use of vaccines and other veterinary medicinal products, differentiated according to the disease category, used for terrestrial and aquatic animals, owned or wild.

“The implementation of these measures will allow us to track concrete results and reduce disease outbreaks, expand vaccination and introduce a vaccine traceability system. By adopting this regulation, we protect public health and strengthen the national system for the prevention of animal diseases,” said Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga.

The role of the National Food Safety Agency will be strengthened as the authority responsible for approving vaccination plans, and for monitoring and record-keeping, a registration system will be created that will include animals’ identification, type of vaccine and date of administration. The administration of the vaccine is carried out under the control of the official veterinarian, who ensures the recording of vaccinations and the management of remaining vaccine quantities.

At the same time, cooperation with the authorities of Romania and Ukraine will be improved for managing cross-border risks and creating joint vaccination zones.
