VIDEO // Fine of up to 600 lei for using phone while driving in Moldova; police step up control actions
Around 500 drivers have been caught in recent days using their phones while driving. They risk a fine of up to 600 lei and three penalty points.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the press officer of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Oxana Toderita, emphasized that law enforcement officers had boosted checks on the use of mobile phones at the wheel.
"These actions take place on public roads throughout the country and aim to reduce the risk of traffic accidents caused by lack of attention while driving. Using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle is one of the frequent causes of accidents. A moment of inattention can have serious consequences. In the context, we urge all road users to act responsibly and cautiously," said Oxana Toderita.
The intensified checks will be carried out between February 5 and 28, this year. The IGP stresses that such preventive actions are part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and protect the lives of road users.
