Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu returned to his native village of Cosauti, where he visited Ion Lozan, one of the most valuable stone craftsmen of Moldova. Lozan creates stone artworks that beautify churches, monasteries and public spaces both in the country and abroad.

Ion Lozan is one of the main coordinators of stone-processing activities in the area. The locality has quarries that supply stone used for sculptures, decorative elements, and architectural components. Around 50 craftsmen and apprentices work in Cosauti, organized into workshops specializing in stone processing. The material used comes mainly from the quarries in Cosauti and Egoreni.

Initially, production focused mainly on tombstones and religious elements. Later, the range of works expanded to complex architectural elements, such as monumental entrances, carved icons, capitals and other components meant for religious and civil buildings.

The prime minister noted that true culture was built by people who love art and never give up their vocation: “I thank all the folk craftsmen of Moldova who, through their work, keep our roots alive and give us reasons for pride.”

On the occasion of the National Culture Day, and as a sign of appreciation for his contribution to promoting national cultural values and preserving traditional crafts passed down from generation to generation, the prime minister presented craftsman Ion Lozan with a Certificate of Honor on behalf of Moldova’s government.
