
Agenda of Moldova-NATO cooperation discussed in Chisinau
Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi today had a meeting with a delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, on a visit to Moldova. He emphasized the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in developing the Moldova-NATO partnership and strengthening shared democratic values.
During the discussions, the Moldovan diplomacy head presented the foreign policy priorities of Moldova, highlighting the importance of building a reliable partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance during 30 years.
The official also highlighted the actions undertaken in various fields to implement the criteria for accession to the European Union by 2030, a strategic objective of the country.
A priority topic of the meeting was the evolution of the regional security situation, including initiatives promoted for ending the conflict initiated by Russia against Ukraine, as well as the importance of establishing arrangements for a just and lasting peace based on solid security guarantees and meant to discourage new armed aggressions in the region.
Also, the officials discussed the cooperation priorities on the Moldova-NATO agenda, emphasizing the mutual interest in continuing the political dialogue and implementing practical programmes in mutually agreed sectors, enhancing Moldova's resilience, security and defense capabilities. The sides also focused on cooperation in countering new security threats, especially the hybrid ones.
Mihai Popsoi reiterated the interest in the organization's expertise and assistance in promoting democratic reforms, highlighting the need for modernizing and strengthening the national security and defense sector, in accordance with new developments and requirements of the current security environment.
The members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation, for their part, stressed the importance of Moldova continuing its course of European integration, noting that the North Atlantic Alliance states were willing to share their expertise and experiences and provide the necessary assistance.
