Centru Court of Appeal rejects appeal of political party led by Victoria Furtuna; Greater Moldova Party excluded from electoral race

The Centru Court of Appeal has rejected the political party's appeal. Consequently, the decision of the Central Electoral Commission, under which the Greater Moldova Party was removed from the electoral race, stays in force.

In a social media post, Victoria Furtună described the decision as a "shameful act of political retaliation against the Greater Moldova Party".

Today morning, the president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, announced that the party remained in the race until the court's decision is pronounced.

In response, Victoria Furtună urged her supporters not to vote for the party she leads, but for any other in opposition, arguing that the judges would make an unfavorable decision and Greater Moldova would be ousted from the race.

It is the only party that, on election day, urged its supporters not to vote for it.

The Greater Moldova Political Party on September 26 was excluded from electoral race, under a decision adopted by the CEC with six votes for and three abstentions. The decision came after reviewing the complaint filed by the European Social Democratic Party, which accused the party of funding from abroad and cooperation with the fugitive oligarch, Ilan Shor.

Thus, based on the documents issued by the law-enforcement institutions, the involvement of the political party was alleged in the following: use of undeclared funds; use of money from abroad for the electoral campaign; electoral corruption; participation in a covert electoral bloc through association and voting urges promoted by Ilan Shor and the Victory Bloc, previously removed from the race and with limited activity; involvement of the Church (Metropolitan See of Moldova) in the electoral campaign; massive influence on electoral rights; direct assistance from the Russian Federation.
