President on State Flag Day: It is important we rise to height of values flag represents – to be united and work together for country’s future

On State Flag Day, we remember that the right to raise the tricolor is a privilege earned through the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for national dignity and the restoration of historical truth. It is important that we rise to the height of the values the flag represents – to be united and to work together for the future of the Republic of Moldova. President Maia Sandu conveyed the message on State Flag Day.

The official underlined that the flag is a symbol of our freedom, a value that we must preserve with dignity.

“On every building, on every street, in every park and every courtyard where it flies, the flag stands as proof of how precious our freedom is. Today we also celebrate the emotion we feel when we see the tricolor far from home – on international podiums or wherever in the world Moldovans keep their connection with the country alive. But most important is that, in our everyday lives, we rise to the height of the values the flag represents – to be united, kind to one another, and to work together for the future of the Republic of Moldova,” Maia Sandu said.

Today, the Republic of Moldova marks State Flag Day – a symbol of our sovereignty, independence, and national identity. The holiday was established by the Parliament in Chișinău on April 23, 2010. The tricolor was officially designated as the state flag on April 27, 1990, and today marks 36 years since its adoption.

The State Flag of the Republic of Moldova is a major official symbol of sovereignty and independence. The colors of the tricolor – blue, yellow, and red – each have a powerful meaning. Blue stands for clear skies, freedom, and faith. Yellow symbolizes wheat, prosperity, and well-being. Red represents the blood shed for freedom, as well as the courage and solidarity of our people.
