VIDEO // Prime Minister on State Flag Day: We carry it with pride and commit to hoisting it with dignity alongside flags of great European family

Our tricolor carries within it the hopes, struggles, and dreams of the people. Its return to the public space in 1989 and its consecration as the State Flag on 27 April 1990 marked decisive steps toward freedom and independence. Today we carry it with pride and responsibility, as a symbol of our identity and of the path we are building together. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu conveyed the message on State Flag Day.

The official noted that in the colors of the flag are found the hopes, struggles, and dreams of the citizens of our country.

"The Flag of the Republic of Moldova is not just a symbol hoisted on buildings. It is part of our soul. Through the courage and will of the people, in 1989 the tricolor returned to the public space in Chișinău. I remember those days very well. It was carried with pride by people who demanded freedom and the right to assert their identity. On 27 April 1990, this symbol officially became the state flag – a decisive step on the road to independence. Today we carry it with pride and commit to hoisting it with dignity alongside the flags of the great European family, as a sign of our common values and aspirations. Let us carry it with respect, remembering who we are, how much we have achieved together, and how much more we will build together. Happy State Flag Day of the Republic of Moldova! Happy holiday, Republic of Moldova!” Munteanu said.

State Flag Day is being marked today in Moldova – a symbol of our sovereignty, independence, and national identity. The holiday was established by the Parliament in Chișinău on 23 April 2010. The tricolor was officially designated as the state flag on 27 April 1990, and today marks 36 years since its adoption.

The State Flag of the Republic of Moldova is a major official symbol of sovereignty and independence. The colors of the tricolor – blue, yellow, and red – each have a powerful meaning. Blue stands for clear sky, freedom, and faith. Yellow symbolizes wheat, prosperity, and well-being. Red represents the blood shed for freedom, as well as the courage and solidarity of our people.
