VIDEO // Speaker on State Flag Day: Under this flag, we have duty to build future and take Moldova where it belongs – into community of free and prosperous countries

The flag is the symbol that unites us as a nation and reminds us of the path taken towards freedom, independence, and our place in the world. To honor the state flag means to know our past and to respect our history. Speaker Igor Grosu conveyed the message at a solemn ceremony dedicated to State Flag Day.

In his speech, the official highlighted the role of the flag as a symbol of the struggle for freedom and independence, as well as a marker for the country’s European future.

“Today we honor the tricolor – the State Flag of our country, the symbol that unites us as a nation and reminds us of the path taken towards freedom, independence, and our place in the world. To honor the State Flag means to know our past and to respect our history,” said Igor Grosu.

The Speaker also spoke about the significance of each color in the tricolor, associating them with the people’s values and traditions.

“Red burns like our hearts, like the love for our nation wherever we may be. It is the color of the blood of our ancestors, who gave their lives for us. It is the color of our courage and energy as a nation. Yellow brings us home, in the smell of warm bread, in golden fields, in the peace of the hearth. It is the color of abundance and prosperity. Blue lifts our gaze to the sky, to peace, to a future we believe in. It is the color of our aspiration to freedom,” Grosu underlined.

The official stressed that the tricolor reflects the story of Moldovans and the responsibility of the current generations to continue this journey.

“These three colors tell our story. A story that we write every day and that our children will continue. Under this flag, our forefathers fought for freedom. Under this same flag, we have the duty to build the future,” he said.

In the same context, Igor Grosu reiterated the strategic objective of the Republic of Moldova to integrate into a community of democratic states.

“We have the duty to take the Republic of Moldova where it belongs – into a community of free and prosperous countries. And we can do this only together, day by day, each of us, working honestly and taking care of our fellow citizens,” declared the Speaker.

In conclusion, the official conveyed a message of unity and solidarity, expressing gratitude to all those who promote the country’s image.

“27 April is also a day when we thank all those who wear the tricolor with pride, at home and abroad. Because Moldova is where we, Moldovans, are. Moldova is not just a place but a people. And as long as the tricolor lives in our hearts, this nation cannot be defeated,” Igor Grosu concluded.

The solemn ceremony dedicated to State Flag Day ended with a military salute to the tricolor.

In the Republic of Moldova, State Flag Day is celebrated today – a symbol of our sovereignty, independence, and national identity. The holiday was established by the Parliament in Chișinău on 23 April 2010. The tricolor was officially designated as the state flag on 27 April 1990, and today marks 36 years since its adoption.

The State Flag of the Republic of Moldova is a major official symbol of sovereignty and independence. It is a rectangular cloth, with the ratio between the height and length of 1:2, vertically divided into three equal parts, starting from the flagstaff, in the colors blue, yellow, and red, with the image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova in the center of the yellow field, whose width is 1/5 of the length of the flag.

The colors of the tricolor – blue, yellow, and red – each have a strong meaning. Blue stands for clear sky, freedom, and faith. Yellow symbolizes wheat, prosperity, and well-being. Red represents the blood shed for freedom, as well as the courage and solidarity of our people.
