ARSENAL operation: Police inspect how firearms owned, carried and used

Police officers are conducting inspections on how citizens own, carry and use firearms. The measures are taking place nationwide as part of Arsenal operation.

Press officer of the National Inspectorate for Public Security (INSP) Ana Chiselita said that the operation aims to prevent the illegal use of weapons and the occurrence of incidents involving them.

“Any irregularity found is sanctioned in accordance with current legislation, and if situations that endanger public safety are identified, additional investigative measures will be taken. In this context, gun owners are urged to strictly comply with legal regulations, not to carry weapons under the influence of alcohol or prohibited substances, not to allow other persons access to the safe where they are stored, and not to leave weapons unattended. Also, if you find or come into possession of such items, immediately notify the police and do not touch or transport them,” said Ana Chiselita.

ARSENAL operation is carried out periodically at national level and aims to strengthen public security by preventing incidents related to the improper use of firearms.

According to INSP data, 64,821 Moldovan citizens are legal gun owners. In total, 81,700 firearms are officially registered.
