Authorities urge Moldovan citizens in Dubai to go to airport only after being contacted by airlines

The authorities are urging Moldovan citizens in Dubai to go to the airport only after being contacted by the airlines, which will ensure they can operate flights under safe conditions. Dubai International Airport has been partially closed over the past 24 hours, with only certain flights operated based on special instructions.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Valeriu Mija recommended that citizens check the status of their flights in advance.

“In certain areas of the Middle East, the airspace remains closed or affected, and some flights may be cancelled or rescheduled without prior notice. Local authorities are maintaining heightened security measures, including shelter-in-place recommendations and limiting non-essential travel. In the current security context, the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Moldova are in direct contact with local authorities and with the competent structures in the affected states. At the same time, links have been established with citizens of the Republic of Moldova located in the targeted areas,” said Valeriu Mija.

According to official information, in the monitored states there are no recorded victims or injured persons among Moldovan citizens.

“Citizens are urged to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and to remain in contact with diplomatic missions. The authorities recommend that people avoid travelling in the region. At the same time, it is important that citizens who are already in the area follow only official sources of information,” Valeriu Mija added.

The authorities are also handling requests for assistance and evacuation from the Middle East region. Evacuation actions are being coordinated with neighbouring states, including Romania.

“These are Moldovan citizens who are temporarily in these states, either for tourism or for work. For the evacuation, a set of coordinated actions with partner states, including Romania, is being examined so that this process can take place safely, including by land,” the State Secretary added.

In the context of the deteriorating situation in the Middle East,  Chisinau foreign ministry has activated several monitoring and intervention mechanisms. In this regard, a Crisis Cell is operating on a permanent basis and maintains contact with the authorities of the Middle Eastern states.
