Electricity procured by Energocom company of Moldova cheaper in last February
The Energocom company in last February procured a total volume of 420.508 thousand MWh of electricity at a weighted average price of 123.80 euros/MWh.
By comparison, in January 2026, Energocom procured a total volume of 478.233 thousand MWh of electricity at a weighted average price of 144.52 euros/MWh.
According to Energocom, acquisition costs do not include taxes and expenses related to transmission, capacity reservation and other logistical costs.
The electricity demand for last January was covered both from domestic sources and imports. Thus, of the total volume of electricity, 55.11 per cent was covered by imports, while 44.89 per cent came from local producers.
At the same time, 37.35 per cent of the purchased electricity was procured through bilateral contracts with suppliers and producers from Romania, and 17.76 per cent was purchased via the BRM (Romanian Commodity Exchange) and OPCOM trading platforms.
Since January 1, 2025, the right bank of the Dniester River has no longer been receiving electricity from the Kuchurgan Power Plant, after the Russian conglomerate Gazprom halted natural gas deliveries to Moldova. Under these conditions, consumption is covered from domestic sources and imports.
