Local, international companies invited to participate in modernization of district heating in Chisinau, Balti

Local and international companies are invited to participate in public tenders and procurement procedures for the modernization of district heating systems in Chisinau and Balti, at the District Heating System Efficiency Forum, held in the Moldovan capital today.

According to the Energy Ministry, the event aimed to present ongoing strategic projects and to launch an information campaign to attract economic operators from the construction, installation, energy technology and project management sectors. The forum provided details on planned investments for modernizing thermal distribution networks, installing individual heating substations, expanding horizontal distribution and developing domestic hot water services.

The event was attended by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy Vitalie Mita, who emphasized that, in recent years, the authorities had made efforts to attract external financing and strengthen strategic partnerships in the district heating sector. According to him, cooperation with international financial institutions is essential for modernizing infrastructure and transitioning to an efficient and sustainable energy system.

One of the projects presented is Optimization of the centralized heat supply system in the municipality of Chisinau, an investment programme worth 326 million euros, financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The project will be implemented during seven years in the district heating network managed by Termoelectrica.

According to the data presented, 2,510 individual heating substations are to be installed in Chisinau, 57 pilot energy efficiency projects will be implemented in residential blocks, and horizontal distribution of thermal energy will be carried out in 1,665 multi-storey buildings.

In parallel, in the municipality of Balti, the project, District Heating System of the Municipality of Balti – Phase II, is being implemented, with CET-Nord as the beneficiary, financed through a loan granted by the EBRD, complemented by concessional financing and grants. The project provides for the installation of individual heating substations in 166 buildings and the development of horizontal distribution and domestic hot water supply networks in 296 residential blocks, so that approximately two-thirds of consumers in Balti will benefit from modernized services.

The forum is organized under the auspices of Moldova’s government, with the support of the EBRD and the EIB, and is part of the national efforts to modernize the energy sector and achieve the country’s committed climate goals.
