Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau Court of Appeal today turned down an appeal by the lawyers of the former leader of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Vladimir Plahotniuc, and maintained the decision by the Chisinau Court, which issued a warrant of arrest for 30 days against Plahotniuc.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, prosecutors are to send all materials regarding Vladimir Plahotniuc to the authorities of the United States, for his extradition.
The consideration of the defendant’s appeal was initially established for 28 May; yet, it was adjourned five times, at a request by the lawyers of the former Democrats’ leader.
On 22 May 2020, the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS) got in court the issuance of a warrant of arrest against Vladimir Plahotniuc. The issuance of this preventive measure was preceded by the bringing of a charge by prosecutors against Plahotniuc for swindle, money laundering, organization and leadership of a criminal organization. The legislation provides for 15 years of imprisonment for these offences.
