Moldova's acting prosecutor general questioned again; Vetting Commission to decide whether Alexandru Machidon passed evaluation

Acting Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon has been heard at an additional session by Panel A of the Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission. The hearing was held to provide further clarifications to questions raised by the panel members during the external evaluation procedure.

Under Panel’s decision, the meeting was held behind closed doors. Following the hearing, the Panel is to draw up an evaluation report that will include the relevant facts, the grounds and the conclusion on whether Alexandru Machidon has passed or failed the evaluation.

The report will be approved by unanimous vote of the Panel members within no more than 30 working days from the date of the hearing. In cases deemed complex, the examination period may be extended by up to 15 working days. The deadline for issuing the report is calculated from the date of the first hearing of the Acting Prosecutor General, which took place on 10 December 2025.

If the Panel members do not reach a unanimous vote, the report will be submitted for examination to the Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission.

Additional information on the external evaluation procedure can be consulted on the Commission’s website, as well as in Law No. 252/2023.

Acting Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon was heard on 10 December in the public part of the session of the Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission regarding the apartment he purchased in 2018 at the same price previously paid by another owner who had carried out renovation works. Although the state accuser requested that this subject is considered at a closed meeting, invoking problems related to his integrity, the Commission rejected the request.

According to information presented by Commission member Nadejda Hriptievschi, the 65.6-square-meter apartment was initially sold in 2016 for 34,000 euros and later put up for sale for 38,000 euros after repairs were carried out. Ultimately, the property was bought by Alexandru Machidon in 2018, again for 34,000 euros, already renovated and partially furnished. The acting prosecutor general said that subsequent repair works had been carried out from income earned in previous years and confirmed that he knew the seller before the transaction, as they had mutual friends.
