Moldovan government approves new hygiene rules for medical institutions
Patients and medical staff of Moldova will benefit from higher-quality medical services and safer working conditions. The government has approved a new Health Regulation on hygiene conditions for medical services’ providers.
The project establishes a unified framework applicable to all medical services’ providers – public and private, including outpatient care, inpatient (hospital) care, day hospitals and mobile medical units. It sets out clear requirements regarding how medical spaces are organized, as well as hygiene, cleanliness and safety conditions for patients and medical staff.
An important component of the document is the strengthening of infection prevention and control measures, through the separation of patient flows, zoning of areas with epidemiological risk, modern requirements for ventilation and microclimate and clear rules for cleaning, disinfection and medical waste management.
The regulation also establishes the obligation to provide drinking water, backup sources for water and electricity, appropriate lighting and equipment conditions, and rules for the nutrition of hospitalized patients.
The document replaces the old provisions, approved in 2010, which no longer correspond to the realities of the health system and current infection prevention standards.
