Moldovan teachers with at least ten years of teaching subject, who hold teaching degree to no longer be obliged to take retraining courses
Teachers who have been teaching a subject for at least ten years and hold an appropriate teaching degree will automatically be regarded qualified for that subject, without being asked to attend retraining courses.
Also, teachers with a minimum of three years of experience will benefit from a simplified retraining procedure.
The provisions are included in the new methodology on the retraining of teachers and the validation of professional competencies in general education.
Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said that the new rules support teachers who had been teaching a particular subject for many years, but were financially disadvantaged because they did not have a university specialization in the field.
As for beginners who wish to teach a subject different from the one studied at university, they will still need to undergo a retraining programme. In recent years, the costs of these courses have been fully covered by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC).
The new methodology describes the professional retraining process, explains how competency validation is organized and also provides for the establishment of Validation Centers in colleges and higher education institutions. At the same time, the document clearly defines which subjects may be taught based on the faculty and specialization completed, ensuring the correct employment of teaching staff.
The action is part of a package of de-bureaucratization measures approved by the ministry, aimed at reducing administrative burdens and recognizing professional experience gained in practice.
