Prime Minister Dorin Recean today met representatives of the tourism industry from the central Orhei region, with whom he discussed challenges and development prospects for the sector.
"We have beautiful places, an authentic culinary offer and hospitable people. We want the world to hear about Moldova. The government supports all tourism development initiatives in Moldova and has recently taken concrete steps. Including in our programme on roads’ repair and infrastructure modernization, we prioritize stimulating the tourism industry," said Recean.
The PM noted that the government had included tourism development as a priority in programme on rehabilitation of roads’ infrastructure and emphasized the need to simplify the bureaucratic procedures, in order to facilitate the promotion of local products by guesthouses and community initiatives.
"I thanked our entrepreneurs, whose optimism and hard work lead to the increase in the number of tourists visiting our country, especially since Moldova has much to boast about and the whole world should hear about us. Last year, the number of tourists visiting our country increased by 55 per cent. At the same time, there is a need for procedures’ simplification, so that our guesthouses can promote local products and people can open their doors to tourists. We want to increase European assistance dedicated to promoting Moldova, as well as create specific products of the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA) tailored to the industry's needs," emphasized the prime minister.
The PM said that waste management was another issue that needs to be addressed through serious investments, collaboration with local public authorities and informing citizens.
