Public Property Agency starts expropriation process for construction of new U.S. Embassy building in Moldova
The government has approved the decision on the expropriation of certain constructions necessary for the works of construction of a new building of the United States Embassy in Moldova.
“We guarantee that the expropriation process will be conducted strictly according to the law and good practices and those expropriated will receive fair compensation. This will initially be paid by the state and later reimbursed by the U.S. Government,” said Roman Cojuhari General Director of the Public Property Agency.
According to the Intergovernmental Agreement, the USA commits to renovating the historical gates of the former stadium and making them publicly accessible. Also, a public park will be arranged and revenues from the agreement’s implementation will be used by Moldova’s government for social projects.
In last mid-April, the United States Government made the first payment of 3.2 million euros (approximately 62 million lei) for compensation to the expropriated parties, in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement concerning the new U.S. Embassy building in Moldova.
The agreement with the U.S. Government on the acquisition of property for the new diplomatic mission’s building was ratified by the Moldovan parliament in the last summer. According to the project, the U.S. diplomatic campus will be constructed, as well as a public park will be set on the territory of the former Republican Stadium in the city center, located on Tighina Street 12.
