Address to disappear from ID card
The parliament is set to amend legislative acts concerning the issuance of identity cards for citizens of the Republic of Moldova and residence cards for foreign citizens, stateless persons, refugees, and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection. Members of the national security, defense and public order committee examined a draft law today.
The initiative aims to harmonize national legislation with the European Union's acquis and stipulates that certain personal information, such as domicile, temporary residence, or patronymic will no longer be included in the format of the documents. The data will continue to be accessible through the State Population Registry via the MConnect platform.
Thus, holders will no longer be required to change their identity documents with every change of residence.
It also includes tax exemptions for registering the domicile of children under 14 without identity documents, as well as for foreign or stateless unaccompanied children on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The new identity cards will include an electronic signature valid for five years, allowing access to data in digital format.
According to the Public Services Agency, about 50,000 people have already requested the new identity cards. One million documents are set to be issued for free, with the costs covered by the ASP budget.
