Ukraine’s National Unity Day marked in Chisinau

The resilience, dignity and solidarity of Ukraine have been celebrated in Chisinau during an event dedicated to Ukraine’s National Unity Day, held in a context in which these values define the struggle and identity of the Ukrainian people.

The event brought together representatives of the authorities, the diplomatic corps, international organizations and the Ukrainian community of Moldova, reaffirming constant support for Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Moldova Paun Rohovei highlighted the profound significance of this day.

“During the war for Ukraine’s independence, unity gains a special depth. More than ever, Ukrainians must come together for the future – not only through words, but through actions. Unity means mutual support, solidarity and daily responsibility,” the diplomat said.

The event took place at the Agency for Interethnic Relations and marked the inauguration of the first permanent Ukrainian stand with a cultural and educational character, created with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau.

The initiative belongs to Olena Prysiajnіuk, founder of the organization International Impact Center, and offers the public an insight into the history, heritage and values of Ukraine, through traditional cultural objects, books and bilingual informational materials.

“The stand symbolizes the journey of the Ukrainian people from past to present, highlighting spiritual strength, freedom, dignity and cultural resilience,” noted Olena Prysiajnіuk. Messages of solidarity were also conveyed by representatives of public institutions, who emphasized the close ties between the peoples of Moldova and Ukraine. It was highlighted that hundreds of thousands of Moldovans and Romanians live in Ukraine and over 200,000 Ukrainians are currently in Moldova, realities that confirm unity among people beyond borders.

The event was complemented by an artistic programme performed by the string quartet Creative, which interpreted works by Ukrainian composers Mykola Leontovych and Myroslav Skoryk. Guests also received souvenirs created in the style of traditional Petrykivka painting, a symbol of Ukrainian cultural identity.

The public also had the opportunity to discover Ukraine through the digital platform Ukraїner, available in 13 languages, which provides an exploration of the cultural, historical and artistic heritage of the country’s various regions.

On January 22, Ukraine marks Unity Day, a national holiday that commemorates the significant moment in 1919, when the Act of Unification between the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic was proclaimed.
