Warning for pedestrians and drivers: icy streets and sidewalks

Law enforcement officers have been mobilized and are providing assistance to citizens in difficulty, amid bad weather conditions marked by sleet and sub-zero temperatures, which have led to the formation of ice on the streets and sidewalks of Chisinau municipality.

According to the Police, citizens are urged to avoid non-essential travel and to stay at home if they do not have an emergency, to cross streets only at designated pedestrian crossings, and to show solidarity by helping people in difficulty and informing the authorities when the situation requires it.

At the same time, according to the Chisinau City Hall, due to the weather conditions, ice has formed in certain locations in the capital’s districts on roads, sidewalks, and alleys. The relevant municipal services, together with the district preturas, are continuously intervening in the field with 48 mechanized units and approximately 100 workers in order to keep the situation under control.

The authorities recommend that drivers proceed with caution, adjust their speed to road conditions, and ensure that their vehicles are properly equipped for the winter season. Pedestrians are also urged to be careful in public spaces, to supervise children, and, if not necessary, to avoid going outside.

Business operators and property managers are called upon to take action against ice formation in the areas they administer. In the event of problematic situations caused by weather conditions, city residents can contact the Municipal Central Dispatch Service or the single emergency number 112.
