Moldovan parliament speaker congratulates sportspeople who won medals at World Weightlifting Championship

Moldova has won 13 medals at the World Weightlifting Championship, at the U-17 and U-20 age categories. The sportspeople who achieved these performances were congratulated at the beginning of the today's parliament meeting.

“Today, in plenum, we had the opportunity to applaud and thank our champions for their achievements at the World Weightlifting Championship in Lima, Peru,” said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.

The country's athletes won four gold, three silver and six bronze medals in all.

“These performances once again prove the value of the weightlifting school in  Moldova. Some of the medal winners are here in the hall. They also shone on the podium at the European Weightlifting Championship in Chisinau, which has recently taken place. Thank you for your hard work, dedication and for bringing fame to our country,” Igor Grosu emphasized.

The speaker named the awarded sportspeople and their coaches in plenum, who were applauded by the MPs.

The World Weightlifting Championship, reserved for the U-17 and U-20 age categories, was held in Lima, Peru. Weightlifter Danu Secrieru (55 kg) won three gold medals. Additionally, Dan Betca (67 kg) won gold in the snatch event with a result of 122 kg, bronze in the clean and jerk with 146 kg, and silver in the total with 268 kg. At the same time, Ion Badanev (61 kg) won bronze in the clean and jerk with 150 kg, while Nicoleta Cojocaru (55 kg) won silver in the snatch with 82 kg and bronze in total with 182 kg.

Weightlifter Alexandr Baldji also won the bronze medal at the “clean and jerk” category. The last distinction for Moldova was brought by Alexandrina Ciubotaru, at the weight category up to 76 kg, in the U-20 age category. The sportswoman won the bronze medal in the “clean and jerk” event, with a result of 124 kg.
