Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/ - President of Italy Sergio Mattarella comes to Moldova. The Italian official is expected in Chisinau today evening, where he will be present at a concert in his honour held at the Palace of the Republic. This is the first official visit by an Italian head of state to Moldova.

The concert will be dedicated to the work of Giacomo Puccini, as the 2024 year is dedicated to this famous Italian composer. Attending the concert will be President of Moldova Maia Sandu and President of Italy Sergio Mattarella.

On 18 June, head of state Maia Sandu will meet her Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella at an official ceremony and subsequently the two presidents will give a joint news conference.

In the context of the visit by the president of Italy on 17-18 June this year, policemen informed about certain movement restrictions. At the moment of the movement of the official column, the road traffic will be ceased on the streets: Dacia Blvd., Stefan cel Mare Blvd., Bucuresti Street, Maria Cebotari Street, Metropolitan Varlaam Street, Vlaicu Parcalab Street.

Italy hosts the biggest community of Moldovans from the Diaspora. The cooperation between the two states is carried out at more levels. Thus, during 2022-2023, with Italy’s support, more centres for hosting refugees from Ukraine were set and 21 vehicles were purchased for the Border Police.

Also, Italy is the sixth Moldova’s commercial partner, with more than 1,200 companies with Italian capital present in the country.

Also, Italy’s contribution within the Moldova Support Platform in the 2022 and 2023 years compensated a part of the invoices for energy, paid by the Moldovan citizens in the cold season. Moldova and Italy cooperate also on the international security dimension, especially within the peacekeeping missions under the aegis of the United Nations.
