Moldovan government excludes mandatory yellow registration plates for road passenger transport
Yellow background registration plates will no longer be mandatory for road passenger transport. The government today approved a decision that allows operators to use registration plates with a yellow background, as well as those with a white background.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, Ina Voicu said that the purpose of the draft was to eliminate outdated or obsolete requirements that create obstacles in business development.
"The proposed measures target both trade and road transport and can bring savings worth over 36 million lei to entrepreneurs annually," said Ina Voicu.
The removal of the obligation to use yellow plates for public passenger transport will simplify procedures and reduce costs for operators, authorities say.
The registration plates with a yellow background stay valid until the vehicle is deregistered or until they are replaced by the owner.
In the event of a request by the road transport operator for a registration plate with a white background, stored at the Public Services Agency, the yellow background registration plates are returned to the Public Services Agency.
The Public Services Agency can issue, upon request from road passenger transport operators, until December 31, 2025, registration plates with a yellow background, within the limit of manufactured registration plates’ stocks.
At the same time, the draft also includes changes in the field of trade, with the intention to exclude merchants’ obligations related to personal data processing and give the right to establish food-profile units in individual homes, with the consent of the owners.
