Moldovan government extends funding for Project V of country's roads' rehabilitation
The government today approved the initiation of negotiations and the signing of Amendment No. 1 to the Loan Agreement between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the implementation of Project V for roads’ rehabilitation in Moldova.
Through this agreement, the funding amount will be increased from 150 million euros to 300 million euros, which will allow the extension and completion of strategic roads’ infrastructure works by 2031.
“The project aims to modernize two key sectors of the national roads’ network. The first is the M1 Chisinau–Leuseni road, the main road link of Moldova with Romania and the European Union, essential for the transport of goods and cross-border movement. The second goal is the sector 2 of Chisinau's beltway, which is to be expanded to four lanes, in order to reduce urban traffic and improve transport flow,” the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) said.
The authorities emphasize that the implementation of this agreement will have a significant impact on roads’ safety, citizens’ mobility and economic development.
“The modernization of infrastructure will contribute to facilitating the transport of goods, stimulating trade, enhancing investment attractiveness and supporting regional development,” says MIDR.
Project V of roads’ rehabilitation in Moldova is part of the government's efforts to modernize national infrastructure and align with European standards in the transport sector.
