New rules for agricultural subsidies
Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has adopted a new legislative framework on agricultural subsidies in the second reading. The document was voted by 57 deputies.
The initiative, set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Moldovan agriculture and facilitate farmers' access to modern technologies, new markets, and sustainable practices.
It partially transposes two European regulations, contributing to aligning national agricultural policies with those of the European Union. The law regulates the granting of financial support from the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development based on objective and fair criteria.
Thus, funds will be accessible for farm modernization, rural infrastructure development, and promoting innovation in agriculture. Beneficiaries will have to comply with environmental, public health, and animal welfare standards to access the subsidies.
The new law also provides for the launch of a Strategic Program of Agricultural Policy, valid for a period of five years, which will include intervention strategies, performance indicators, and budget allocations.
According to the relevant authorities, for 2025, the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development has a budget of 1.7 billion lei.
